Abortion law in Trinidad and Tobago

Q: Is it illegal to have an abortion in Trinidad and Tobago?



A: Yes, according to the Offences Against the Person Act, 1925, as amended, abortion is illegal in Trinidad and Tobago.

s.56 states that the penalty for a mother attempting or having an abortion is four (4) years in prison.
s.57 states that the penalty for anyone facilitating the abortion, i.e., purchasing or supplying the pills or instrument, is two (2) years in prison.
